Lower School Dormitory

As the first Thacher home for scores of Toads, the freshmen boys’ dormitory offers many advantages: rustic yet cozy single rooms, simple gathering spaces, and proximity to the barns. However, the faculty residences and dorm rooms are sub-standard, and the dorm layout does not foster the sense of community present in our newer residences.

The new Lower School will better reflect two important Thacher values: community and environmental stewardship. A large quadrangle of thirty dorm rooms and two three-bedroom faculty homes will replace the current structure. This building will include such environmentally-conscious features as clerestory windows, radiant floor heating, energy efficient insulation and a rainwater cistern.

To monitor the progress of the new Lower School, visit our Lower School blog on the main Thacher website.
