Athletic Field

Thacher recently changed sports seasons to engage in more dynamic play. The current practice fields are not sufficient to support the teams. The new athletic field has been carved into the hillside below the road to the gymkhana field in the infamous Rattlesnake Grove area. To conform to the existing road and slope, the field layout is on a southeast to northwest axis. The slope between the field and the road above it has formed a natural "grandstand" seating area and the view of the Ojai Valley from this venue is spectacular.

This field will have a natural-turf playing surface and will be used only as a practive field. The irrigation system in the area has been upgraded in conjunction with the field construction and a new 500,000 gallon irrigation water storage tank was installed at the top of Carpenter's turnout to assure a continuous supply. This stored water will also serve as an additional fire protection source for the campus.

The field will be available for use in the 2005-06 winter season.

The cost to build the new Athletic Field is $1.4 Million.
